'Twas the night before internships and all through the halls,
Not a teacher was stirring...
You can imagine the rest of that. Assume it makes some funny references to people you know. It is actually, however, the night before my internship begins.
Today during class there was a lot of energy, as it was the first day back after spring break. We were all excited to hear that we have only six days left in class. Which is still six too many, but a small enough number to smile about (but secretly cringe at).
Tomorrow I begin my internship at Rethink. My friends are off to agencies like Cossette, TBWA, Barlow Media and so and so forth. We've permeated the agency world like a temporary rodent infestation... in a place where rodents infest for nine weeks, before they go out and get real jobs. That's a solid anology right?
Ultimatley, every single student will find an internship that they like. In reality, it's the companies that were competing for us and those that don't get interns are the ones who end up dissapointed. For any future students who are concerned about the pressure don't worry.
Its more about the fit between you and the company you will work for, as opposed to your qualifactions compared to the applicant before you.
That being said, there are three pieces of advice that always help in an interview:
- Be excited about the opportunity (Conversely: Don't apply for jobs you don't really want)
- Smile a lot (Everybody loves someone who smiles, not everyone can get away with sulking like Eor, from Whinnine the Poo, yet still be loveable)
- Be yourself (People want to hire you, not someone you think they want to hire. If its not the right fit don't force it)
