First year at BCIT has ended. I'm thankful to have some time to relax, finally. The year was a tough one filled with plenty of learning and exams, but throughout the 2 semesters we managed to have a lot of fun.
First year at BCIT played out like a three act movie complete with the slow paced introduction of characters and conflict, character development and a hectic climax. I'm just happy to say it finished with a happy ending.
This summer I have been super busy completing another life long dream as I traveled to Europe. I am determined to begin my career as soon as I graduate, and hopefully will be employed before I receive the diploma.
Europe was an amazing experience. I am a huge geek for ancient ruins, medieval cities and museums. Finally travelling to a country where some of the greatest historical moments actually took place was like a pilgrimage for me.
Now that I have been across the world and lived in cultures different from my own I not only have a better understanding of the world, but a better appreciation for Canada. Although I have to admit, we could borrow a few lessons from the French on to advertise with classy sex appeal, and from the Italians on how to make a good Gelato.
Summer Break
Bright Ideas Masters the Mountain
The first case studies for this year's integrated marketing communications class are back, and Bright Ideas leads the way.
The case studies were of the Whistler Mountain Bike Park, a tourist and recreational destination activity in Whistler, British Columbia.
The gist of the report: "The Whistler Mountain Bike Park will increase ticket sales by targeting double-income couples with no kids (DINKs) with an annual household income exceeding $50,000. There are roughly 1.2 million people in this target audience throughout our chosen regional area of the Lower Mainland, BC and Washington State. As well, almost 47% of the yearly 1.6 million visitors to Whistler fall within this category. To achieve this we need these Whistler visitors to increase their visits to the Bike Park by 2-4%, or we need an estimated 0.01% of the total target audience population in our chosen region to attend the Bike Park once yearly."

Second Semester at BCIT
The second semester for Marketing Management started on January 2nd, and we've been swamped.
It really feels like we stepped back from Vacation into our familiar day-to-day job of learning and struggling to keep up.
Tomorrow Bright Ideas, a marketing 2202 group I'm part of, hands in our first report of the semester. The report is undergoing some final changes today, but the entire group is extremely confident about this project.
Our 15 page report is focused on creating an integrated marketing communications strategy for Whistler Mountain Bike Park. Until all reports have been handed in I can't post a copy of the work, as it contains some brilliant ideas and 'trade secrets', but there will a copy up in less than a week from now.
