Starting right at the beginning of the fourth semester, all of the students in marketing have been searching for internships. We've had over 100 to apply to, but realistically they are only so many "good" ones. The large agency internships are being snatched up and contested. Along with many of the smaller, but well-known, client side positions.
I'm confident that I'll find a good internship. Unlike some people who are desperately throwing resumes at any and every opportunity I have chosen to apply to a select few places that I would actually like to intern at. We are about 3 weeks away from having to find an internship but I still have a couple solid interviews coming in the future.
The problem with the internship hunt at BCIT is that for two years we have heard all about agencies, and big clients, and all this hear-say but none of us have actual hands-on experience. So many people are frantically searching for something they don't even know if they'll like.
My advice to any prosepctive, or first year students at BCIT, is that it is important to make and maintain contacts before the fourth semester. Call agencies, conduct informational interviews and make some friends. It will help you avoid all the hassle that comes along with trying to secure an internship amongst the headache of your classes.
